If you have web access, you can attend this year’s Department of Defense Corrosion Conference next month—free, from anywhere in the world.

For the first time, DoD's Corrosion Conference will stream live, online only, from 1 to 5 p.m. ET Sept. 16 and 17.

"We're bringing the DoD Conference to you," the conference website reports.

The technical program includes more than 100 presentations across a dozen topic areas. NACE International will administer the event.

The free event, administered by NACE International, will feature a platform that includes "virtual" rooms where presentations will run concurrently, changing every 20 to 25 minutes. Speakers will be available to answer questions at the end of each session.

Attendees will be able to access any presentation at any time during the two-day presentation. Participants may register on the conference website.

Technical Program

The Technical Program includes more than 100 presentations from industry professionals from 12 countries. Topic areas include:

  • Accelerated and outdoor exposure testing;
  • Ceramics, non-metals and composites;
  • Protective and other coatings for facilities and infrastructure;
  • Corrosion fundamentals, management, modeling, monitoring and assessment;
  • Inhibitors;
  • Materials for facilities and infrastructure;
  • Metallic alloys;
  • Policy; and
  • Pretreatments.

The conference is led by DoD's Corrosion Policy and Oversight Office, which recently reported out the results of a year-long Facilities and Infrastructure Corrosion Evaluation Study.

DoD Corrosion Conference

The U.S. Department of Defense spends about $22.5 billion each year to address the impact of corrosion on weapon systems and facilities. The agency recently reported on that effort.

Presentation Highlights

The wide variety of coatings presentations tentatively includes:

  • Managing Coatings Projects;
  • Viscous Elastic Coatings;
  • The Evolution and Expansion of Powder for Performance in Military Coatings;
  • Development of an Optimized System for Assessing the Surface Profile of Nonskid Coatings;
  • Chromium-Free Corrosion-Inhibiting Coating Technology for the Protection of High-Strength Aluminum;
  • DiEGME Resistant Materials for Fuel Tank Protection;
  • Water Uptake and Hydroplasticization of a Bisphenol-A Based Epoxy Coating;
  • Multiscale Corrosion Modeling of Aerospace Coatings Systems;
  • Coatings Conditions Assessment; and
  • Assessing the Effectiveness of Two Inhibitors and One Coating against Metallic Corrosion Induced by Cyclic Deicer Exposure.
