Bids are being accepted for cleaning, coating, and inspection of this 420,000-gallon water tank in California.

Coatings & Inspection

The selected coatings inspection firm will oversee all phases of interior and exterior surface preparation and coating application, as well as maintain daily records of project conditions and present a final written report of all coatings work performed.

Professional inspection services will be conducted at the coatings warranty inspection, which will take place within 23 months of acceptance of the coatings work being performed. The inspection is expected to last 35 days.

The interior of the 55-foot-diameter x 24-foot-tall welded-steel ground storage tank will be abrasive blast cleaned to a Near-White finish (SSPC-SP 10) and lined with a three-coat epoxy system. The tank exterior will be low pressure-washed at 1,500-2,000 PSI; spot-power tool-cleaned to SSPC-SP 2; and overcoated with an epoxy primer and intermediate and a polyurethane finish.

Containment is required to capture existing lead-based coal tar coatings, spent abrasive material, sand and paint.

Coatings work is scheduled to begin March 25. Contractors were required to attend a mandatory job walk on Jan. 21 for their bid to be considered.
