The U.S. Department of Transportation has granted Solar Roadways a total of $1.6 million to study the possibility of constructing roads with solar panels. Are solar roads an ideal way to harness energy from the sun?

Hard to say. The research looks interesting, but it'll probably only end up in use on a small scale, like the bike trails already built in the Netherlands.
No way. Solar roads are a pipe dream; the panels won't be able to handle traffic and weather, and the whole idea is a waste of time.
Yes! Solar panels that can stand up to traffic are already in development, and can supply the world with energy, all using roadways that already exist.
